En Vogue – Giving Him Something He Can Feel – 1992

by djzyonseven

Every once in a while a remake comes along and reminds you why music never dies…
It just gets reborn.

Now let’s be clear… this groove didn’t start in the 90s.

The original was recorded by Aretha Franklin in 1973 for the movie Sparkle.
Written and produced by the legendary Curtis Mayfield, the Queen of Soul laid the blueprint with that deep, slow-burn soul that only Aretha could deliver.

Fast forward almost 20 years…
In 1992, En Vogue took that classic and wrapped it in pure velvet.
This version came from their Funky Divas album and featured the full original lineup:
Cindy Herron, Terry Ellis, Dawn Robinson, and Maxine Jones.

Four voices.
Perfect harmony.
No shortcuts.

And that music video? Classic.
Instead of the usual setup, they flipped the script.

The audience in the club was all men…
And not just any men.
The room was filled with male celebrities and entertainers watching the ladies perform like they were at the smoothest R&B showcase ever filmed.

The vibe was grown, classy and confident.
No gimmicks needed.
To me, this is easily one of En Vogue’s best records.
The harmonies, the attitude, the slow groove…

It’s everything that made that group special.

Sometimes the best way to honor a classic…
Is to make it relevant again!

And En Vogue definitely gave us “Something We Could Feel…”
Again!
