When Tank released YES, I was hooked before he even opened his mouth.🗣️
Some songs don’t just catch your attention.
They remind you why you love R&B in the first place.
That Floetry melody is instantly recognizable, one of those neo-soul moments that takes you right back.
Then Tank’s voice comes in, and it’s like, oh yeah, I already know this one’s going into rotation.
I’ve been rocking with Tank since the early days, way back when he was behind the scenes with Aaliyah and then when Maybe I Deserve made me a bigger fan. 💽
His voice has always been rich and grounded.
You know it’s him the moment he sings.
I’ve gone back and forth about which song should introduce him here.
Some of my favorites from him are more explicit, and honestly, that doesn’t bother me.
I don’t shy away from adult themes in music.
If an artist is telling the truth, I’m listening. 🔊
Back in the ’80s and ’90s, artists spoke in metaphors and double entendres.
Like Janet Jackson – Anytime, AnyPlace, Silk – Freak Me, TLC – Red Light Special, R. Kelly – Bump & Grind, Marvin Gaye – Sexual Healing, En Vogue – Giving Him Something He Can Feel, Monifah – Touch It…💿
To name a few.
Now things are said more openly and plainly.
There’s nothing wrong with that.
Neither is wrong.
Different Decades
Different Eras.
They’re just different languages of the same emotion. 🫦
That’s why YES works for me.
Released July 10th, 2026, Tank co-wrote and produced it.
Instead of copying Say Yes, he built something that honors it while standing on its own.
It’s respectful, and it’s fresh.
That idea of taking something classic and revamping it while adding your own perspective that’s art.
That’s storytelling.
And needless to say, YES is already living on several of my Spotify playlists because some songs just belong there.
