There are certain songs that don’t just hit the culture… they detonate in it. 💥
And “Scream” by Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson was one of those moments.
But tonight?
We’re taking this somewhere different.
Okay guys…
I think it’s officially time for me to introduce y’all to one of my favorite things in music culture: REMIXES. 🎶
And if you really know me, then you already know this about me.
I ❤️ remixes.
I have a large amount of remixes that I’ve been collecting since the mid 80’s.
I probably have a remix of almost everything ever made. 😂
Maybe not everything, but I do have a lot.
Seriously.
Sometimes I even love the remix more than the original version.
There’s just something magical about hearing a familiar song get flipped, stretched, rebuilt, and reborn into something brand new.
A good remix doesn’t just replay a song.
It reimagines it.
It gives it another soul.
And over the years I’ve listened to a LOT of DJs, Producers, and Remixers.
Club DJs.
Underground Remixers.
Radio Mixshows.
Bootleg Kings.
Especially some of those incredible remixers that came out of Atlanta, Cali and New York during the mixtape era.
That whole culture shaped me as a DJ and music lover.
I want to introduce you to one of my favz.😎
I’ve been rocking with him,her or they for a while now. (I’ll explain below)⬇️
If you know… you KNOW. 🚬🎶
Single White Glove.
SWG doesn’t just remix songs.
SWG create alternate realities with them.
Extended Intros.
Reworked Vocals.
Different Emotional Textures.
New cinematic energy.
Their remixes feel less like edits and more like discovering hidden versions of songs you thought you already knew by heart.
And tonight I discovered something that honestly blew my mind.
I Can’t Believe I Hadn’t Heard This Version Before! 🙃😮
An Extended Slightly Different version of “Scream.”
Added Scenes and Vocals.
Now let’s be clear for a second.
The original “Scream” was already legendary.
Released in 1995 as the lead single from the album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I, the song was written by Michael, Janet, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis, and produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis alongside Michael Jackson himself.
The song was angry.
Frustrated.
Defiant.
It was Michael responding to the media pressure and public attacks he was dealing with during that era.
Janet came in with that cool, controlled fire and balanced the entire energy perfectly.
And the video!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Directed by Mark Romanek, it became the most expensive music video ever made at the time, costing around $7 million. Black-and-white futuristic visuals.
Isolation.
Rage.
Style.
Power.
It didn’t feel like a music video.
It felt like performance art floating through space.
But somehow… SWG found a way to make it feel NEW again.
This remix and re-edited video version includes new scenes, transitions, textures, and musical moments that make the experience hit completely differently.
Some moments feel darker.
Some feel funkier.
Some feel more emotional.
And THAT is what fascinates me about remix culture.
It’s almost like watching an alternate-universe version of “Scream.”
And you know I’m down with alternate universes.🤔
A remix can completely shift your emotional relationship with a song.
That’s art.
That’s DJ culture.
That’s the heartbeat of reinterpretation.
And honestly…
This feels like the perfect way to finally introduce Michael and Janet into The Soundtrack of Who I Became.
Because this page has never only been about originals for me.
It’s about emotion.
Discovery.
Evolution.
The feeling music gives you when it suddenly becomes personal again.
Now here’s the crazy part…
➡️Nobody really knows who Single White Glove is. 👀
Seriously.
SWG has become almost mythical in remix communities.
Their Michael reworks have developed this underground cult following online.
They have a few Janet reworks also.
And now my DJ brain has officially kicked into detective mode. 🕵️
I’m already digging through Reddit threads, DJ forums, old remix communities, YouTube comments…
Trying to figure out who this person is.
And I will.
Because anybody who can transform something already legendary into something that feels THIS fresh?
That’s somebody who understands music on a very deep level.
So tonight…
I’m officially opening the door for remixes on this page.
And trust me…
Once I start going down this rabbit hole with y’all?
There may be no turning back. 🚬🎧
