Chanté Moore – Love’s Taken Over – 1992

by djzyonseven

I love me some Chanté.
From the moment I heard this song, I fell in love with this woman’s voice.
Her vocal range is absolutely insane.

And yes… she has a whistle register.
Not a lot of singers can do that naturally and still sound smooth doing it.
Chanté made it sound effortless.
This woman can sing, y’all.

If you’ve never heard of her whistle register before, I’ve included it at the bottom. 😄

I’ve always felt like Chanté Moore was underrated.
To me, she was always bigger than just traditional R&B.
Her voice is pure elegance, and she had one of the cleanest vocal deliveries of the entire 90s era.
She could sing the phone book and make it sound expensive.

I honestly love almost everything she released.
Even some of the tracks that never really got pushed publicly.

I even loved the two albums she did with her then, husband…
Kenny Lattimore.
Especially their first covers album, “Things That Lovers Do,” released in 2002.
It was smooth grown folks music done RIGHT.

Real Duets.
Real Chemistry.
Real Vocals.
Real Musicianship.

I almost chose another song for her first feature here because her catalog is DEEP.
But I kept coming back to this one.

Love’s Taken Over” just feels important.

Released in July 1992, it was the debut single from her first album, Precious
(And I love the single Precious. I might have to add it soon)

And what a lot of people don’t realize is that this song was historic for another reason too.
It was the very first single released on Silas Records, the boutique label created by legendary music executive Louis Silas.

He personally chose Chanté to be the face of the label.
Imagine the pressure and confidence behind that decision.
And honestly?
He was right.

The song helped push Precious to Gold status and introduced the world to what many singers already knew…
Chanté Moore was a vocalist’s vocalist.

Studio or Live, she still delivers.
No smoke and mirrors needed.
She’s just raw talent.

This record has that sophisticated grown vibe that this era mastered so well.
Warm keyboards.
Layered harmonies.
Real musicians.

That Old School R&B.🎶
That good shit.

That’s probably why this song still sounds timeless to me.
Because REAL vocals never expire.
Chanté will always be one of my Ladies of R&B.

Nah. Nah.

Oneof my Queens Of R&B.

PS…She’s in my Top 10 R&B Female Vocalists of All Time.
That’s a hard list to be on!
